The blog, the frog and the business card

A blog with its own business card? Hmm. Although we're still working on the Rainy Day business model, the card is ready for the day the plan is presented to the VCs. Should add a touch of class, we feel. The job of creating the card was given to friend and colleague Danko Szabó and here's his take on the assignment:

"The 'Oohs' and 'Aarghs!' of a 9 x 5.

'Not just any old frog. This frog. Flip it if you must, but I really want this frog. This frog has personality.'

Who's arguing? I like the frog, too. The real surprise is how little text the client requires on the 9 x 5 card: only 80 or so characters. And the frog.

So, little text. In fact, any number of layouts are possible. There's room to design, even add a second frog, and still have lots of white space. Frogs appreciate space. Definitely an 'Ooh' assignment. What's an 'Aargh!' assignment? A client who wants four times as many characters and 3 logos crammed onto the same 9 x 5. Not much room left for design, or white space — let alone a frog."

Ooh! Danke, Danko!

Diarist of the day: Jean Cocteau, 2 June 1953

"From nine this morning to six this evening, we haven't turned off the broadcast of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. The radio seemed to come out of the night of time. It must have been an incredible spectacle to see -- but it was fabulous to hear. It was related to those great bards, those troubadours, who recount and embellish. The difference, in our day and age, is that in each house the troubadour-reporter doesn't invent and doesn't try to embellish. He observes and holds his microphone towards the music, the bells, the tides of the crowds."

Beautiful card by Danko. I used to work with Danko at POINT. Now, he sends me my supply of shower gel in Canada.

If you do speak with him, give him my best.
