Google go bragh!
Too busy with books, we were last week, to keep an eye on the Google blog. Caught up with it over the weekend, though. Last Wednesday's posting noted that company founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were in Dublin to officially open Google's European HQ in Barrow Street, which serves the search engine's customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
From five employees last year, the Dublin staff has now grown to 150, drawn from 35 countries and speaking 17 languages. By the way, the company is hiring so "If you're fluent in European languages, if you're motivated, focused and ready for a fast ride, come join us!" Wednesday's blog entry was titled "Dublin go bragh", and if you're wondering what "go bragh" means, it's the Anglicized spelling of the flag-waving Gaelic phrase "ɩreann go Brᣨ!" ("Ireland forever!"). This is a notable declaration by Google in these days of outsourcing, offshoring and quarterly results as "forever" must surely rank as the most long-term commitment a tech company has ever made.

"Forever" is definitely way out there. The polyglot aspect is exciting, too. This is one of the few times I'm sorry I'm too old to start over.
