Blogburst and Benedict for Katrina's victims

Good old Instapundit has organized a Katrina relief "blogburst". The idea is for each blog to link to its preferred hurricane-relief charity, and then link back to Glenn, who is in turn linking to all the participating blogs. Got it? The point of all this is for everyone to donate to the relief effort via a charity of one's choosing. Rainy Day has picked Catholic Charities USA, which specializes in providing long-term recovery aid that ranges from housing to job placement counselling to medical assistance. Now is the time to give.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Vatican Secretary of state, sent the following telegram to the US:

DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES OF THE RECENT HURRICANE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HIS HOLINESS POPE BENEDICT XVI ASSURES ALL THOSE EFFECTED OF HIS CLOSENESS IN PRAYER. THE HOLY FATHER COMMENDS THE DECEASED TO THE LOVING MERCY OF ALMIGHTY GOD, AND UPON THEIR GRIEVING FAMILIES HE INVOKES DIVINE BLESSINGS OF STRENGTH AND CONSOLATION. HIS HOLINESS LIKEWISE PRAYS FOR THE RESCUE WORKERS AND ALL INVOLVED IN PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO THE VICTIMS OF THIS DISASTER, ENCOURAGING THEM TO PERSEVERE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO BRING RELIEF AND SUPPORT.

Persevere. That's the word.
