Eamonn Fitzgerald's Rainy Day

A quarter of a century ago today, Mr and Mrs Rainy Day were joined in matrimony. To test the bonds of the union, we have taken it into odd places at odd times and, despite the stresses and strains of these adventures, here we are, 25 years later and still together. In a world of mobility, flexibility and instability, commitments aren't what they used to be so the keeping of a promise made a score and five years ago is something that deserves celebration. And you can be assured that it will be celebrated in style and with silver.

On this day, we are indebted to our families who made us what we are, and we are grateful to the friends too numerous to mention for their support down the years. Tonight, in Italy, where we honeymooned, we'll open a bottle of this. The brothers Aldo and Riccardo Seghesio produce wine marked by suppleness and finesse and filled with round flavours and satiny textures. Some of the Nebbiolo that went to make La Villa Seghesio comes from vines planted in 1980, a vintage year in so many ways.
