Google Music
Looking for music on the web? Well, you've got iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Yahoo! and last.fm to help you. As of yesterday, Google Music has joined the list.
To see how the service works, we set off in search of the Clancy Brothers, who enlivened our childhood and who have brightened up this winter through Liam Clancy's hilarious reminiscences on "No Direction Home", the Bob Dylan DVD produced by Martin Scorsese. So, off we went and in return for The Clancy Brothers we were offered "Albums", "Artists" and "Songs" to choose from. Clicking through on the "Best of the Clancy Brothers", an unfamliar compilation on the Vanguard label, we noticed that the first track was "The Irish Rover", a favourite. Following through, we were offered the incomparable lyrics as rendered by The Pogues. Shall we have a verse?
There was Barney McGee
From the banks of the Lee
There was Hogan from county Tyrone
There was Johnny McGurk
Who was scared stiff of work
And a man from Westmeath called Malone
There was Slugger O'Toole
Who was drunk as a rule
And fighting Bill Treacy from Dover
And your man, Mick McCann
From the banks of the Bann
Was the skipper of the Irish Rover
By the way, the Google Music album pages link to iTunes and Rhapsody, if you want to buy the music, but there's no link to Napster. Wonder why?

I loved the Clancy brothers growing up. My Da's folk trio played support for them at one stage, and he had all of their albums. Their rendition of Dylans "Boots Of Spanish Leather" at his 50th birthday concert was the highlight of the night.
