World Cup Watch
Only 103 days to go now. Seeing that almost every footie fan's got a mobile phone today, how can FIFA get a slice of the infotainment action? Wouldn't this be the right time to offer an application that features minute-by-minute game commentary, SMS alerts on scores, ringtones, wallpaper and video clips? Yeah, and the infamous South American commentator's "Goooaaaaaaaaaal!" clip would need to be there as well.
Well, guess what? Matchcast, a downloadable mobile application developed by Yahoo! and FIFA will offer exclusive mobile services for the World Cup. Included will be team news, game previews, stats, photos and live commentary. As part of the deal, FIFA is also opening up its video database to allow viewing of the greatest goals from past tournaments. The global launch of Matchcast comes in April and users will be able to sign up on the web or via phone. Maybe it's time to ditch that small-screen device and get one of these head-turning things instead. Don't want to be caught watching the goal-du-jour on anything drab, do we?
