D: Conference coming to Dublin?

Walt Mossberg One of the sharpest, most erudite, most entertaining reporters covering the tech scene is Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal. He takes his time in formulating thoughts and he spends time in assessing the ups and downs of new products. And that's why the Journal's readers love him.

Along with the WSJ gig, Walt's got another iron in the fire, the D: All Things Digital Conference, to which the great and the gifted trek. The fifth edition of D will take places at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, California from May 29 to 31 this year, but it's long sold out. So successful is the venture that Walt's now thinking of bringing a version of it to Europe and that's why he's flying from Munich to Dublin tonight to check out the Irish capital as a potential host city. "London and Paris are too big, too costly," he told Rainy Day. "Dublin's got a nice buzz."

BTW, when shaking Walt's hand, you shake the hand that held the iPhone for 20 minutes: "The largest and most beautiful screen I've ever seen on a cellphone, even though it's incredibly thin. It felt great in my hand. It has a brilliant new user interface; the handsomest email program and web browser I've ever seen on a phone." And he revealed that in true Alexander Graham Bell fashion the one call he made with it was to his assistant.
