Yallop wallops Vatican
Talk of timing! Imagine that you're David Yallop and your book is going to be published on the second anniversary of Pope John Paul II's death (2 April) and that it "Contains explosive revelations from the CIA, the KGB, the Polish secret service and the most secretive place on earth, the Vatican itself". And what happens in the run up? The Archbishop of Warsaw, Stanislaw Wielgus resigns, less than an hour before he is due to be installed in his post, all because of collaboration with Poland's secret police during the dark days of Communism. I mean, you couldn't buy better publicity.
Shenanigans in the Vatican are always welcome news for writers, especially David Yallop. He claims that more than six million copies of In God's Name have been sold. Remember? During the late evening of 28 September or the early morning of 29 September 1978, Pope John Paul 1, Albino Luciani, died only thirty-three days after his election. Cover up! Says Yallop. Albino Luciani was murdered.
In the The Power & The Glory Yallop gives the saintly JP II a good whack of the crozier. The subtitle says it all: "Inside the dark heart of John Paul II's Vatican". According to the publishers, the book:
"Tells for the first time John Paul II's real involvement in the fall of the Iron Curtain and the liberation of Poland." (Rainy Day: This is a rather liberal use of "first time", no? Yallopians might consider reading The Final Revolution: The Resistance Church and the Collapse of Communism by George Weigel.)"Uncovers the myth of the Holy Alliance between Reagan's America and the Vatican." (Rainy Day: That's all you need nowadays to sell books — to an alliance between the Yanks and the Vatican. It's nice to see that Yallop is uncovering his own myth, though.)
"Exposes the true extent of the Pope's failure to control the child abuse scandal." (Rainy Day: So much exposure. I need to lie down. Every newspaper worth its salt, from the Irish Times to the Los Angeles Times, has been exposing the scandal for five years now.)
"Explores the continued financial scandal involving the Vatican bank, the mafia, Freemasonry, illegal money laundering and arms sales." (Rainy Day: Hey! How come George Bush isn't on this list of evil?)
Bet you Ian Paisley has pre-ordered his copy of "The Power & The Glory". He'll find the makings of many a sermon "Inside the dark heart of John Paul II's Vatican". There is no truth in the rumour, btw, that Rainy Day is working on an expose of Jesus Christ provisionally titled "I Stole the Last Slice of Bread at The Last Supper".

Uncovers the myth of the Holy Alliance between Reagan's America and the Vatican.
Er, huh? This makes it sound as if there were a myth no one knew about, and Yallop is going to uncover it. The myths no one knows about are always the juiciest.
Or, we might interpret that as meaning that there is a myth about an alliance between Reagan and the Vatican, and Yallop is going to show that it's not true.
I'm afraid that "there was no secret alliance" will not sell very many books.

Wow! The Freemasons are involved too! I grew up under the impression that Catholics and Freemasons didn't mix, but, of course, that's what they want you to think. (And, come to think of it, our downtown cathedral is located kitty corner from the Masonic Lodge. Don't tell me that's a coincidence.
But where's the Trilateral Commission and the evil Zionists? Doesn't Yallop know that a conspiracy theory ain't worth jack if it doesn't have at least a couple of Rothschilds and the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem at work behind the scenes?
Ah, it's all coming together! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to adjust my tinfoil hat,...,

It is amazing that so many people still fail to understand the Machiavellan nature of the Vatican and Christian leaders throughout history. The Prince was inspired by Machiavelli's years working in the Vatican for the Borgia clan. Just as we have seen with the recent spate of revelations regarding the American religious right and the Republican party, religious and secular leadership have always conspired against the populations they jointly manipulate to gain wealth and power. Whether we look at Communism, Fascism, Democracies, or Monarchies, the leaders of most religions, but most especially the faiths of Abraham, are always in bed with those in power. While pretending to help those they preach to, these scoundrels are regularly involved in blatant deception and duplicity. Playing both sides of major conflicts and social schisms is how the Vatican and its cohorts have divided populations and governments throughout history.
The time is long past for those who still support these cabals of liars to get a clue about the true nature of the Vatican and religion in general. These people have never been trustworthy and little has changed throughout history.
