Spurs vs. Flab

Big sports story in the UK: flabby footballers. "The Tottenham squad are still trying to lose weight after they were found to be 100kg too heavy when Juande Ramos took over as manager in October." As of now at White Hart Lane, fruit smoothies are in and Mars Bars are out. So too are the regular helpings of burgers and chips, followed by stodgy cake. Talking of solid food, it is said that the legendary manager Brian Clough was once dining with his Nottingham Forest team on the eve of a major away game in London. The waiter came around and Clough saw to it that everyone got a large steak. And, asked the waiter, "What about the vegetables?"

"Oh, they'll have the same as me," was Clough's immortal reply.

This Brian Clough anecdote was also used in the 1980s by the British satirical TV programme Spitting Images. In this version, Margaret Thatcher is dining with her cabinet and gives the same answer.
