Week...
... of James Bond coming up almost everywhere but here. The Observer has seven women "examine the phenomenon, from Fleming's writing style to his spy's sartorial habits." And because newspapers are in the link bait business now, there's the inevitable debate "about his sexual preferences." Meanwhile, the Sunday Telegraph, taking a less melodramatic approach, brings in novelist Joseph Connolly to discuss the Bond books, which he collects. And for the piranhas, there's some link bait in the form of "Joan Collins: the day I said no to James Bond". Not to be outdone, The Independent offers "Indiana Jones vs James Bond" and goes for it with "the transatlantic tussle of the superheroes". Brits vs Yanks is not entirely original, but, hey, if the bait catches the surfers, it's worth it.
Rainy Day, disdainfully ignoring the herd, will pay no heed to Bond in the coming week, but it will be all 007 all the time here starting on Monday, 26 May. To give you an idea of the quality of the posts, there'll be one about Abu Mus'ab al-Suri, who claims descent from the Prophet Muhammad through both his grandfathers. He has Spanish citizenship, a Spanish wife, uses many aliases and his fellow jihadis call him, that's right, "James Bond".
