Kaus and the Edwards bomb

Congratulations to Slate blogger Mickey Kaus for his indefatigable pursuit of the slimy John Edwards, who has just admitted to lying about an affair he had been conducting. And congratulations to Kaus for hammering the mainstream media for covering up for Edwards. The conduct of the lot, from the New York Times to NBC, was shocking. Today's revelation is another stake through the heart of what's become an anti-news industry. There are other channels now, thank God.

Ghastly creature that he is, Edwards displayed his media-savvyness today by leaking the story just when America was sitting down to watch the Olympics opening ceremony and Russia was invading Georgia. ("Modified limited Friday evening confession" Kaus) By the way, Edwards was being tipped for the post for Attorney General in an Obama administration, and there was even talk of him being the vice presidential pick. He's radioactive now, though. Developing, as they say.
