Touch (screen) typing
It's one thing to master a computer keyboard, but it's a very different deal to become an iPhone typing champion. We're talking "touch typing" of the extreme kind here. The nice thing about the SpeedType app is that it's free and it does promise to improve one's digital dexterity. Soon, maybe, we'll be sending those messages with lightning speed. And, it is to be hoped, without too many embarrassing typos.
By the way, 148Apps, which tracks and reviews iPhone Apps, says 10,000 applications are now available in the iPhone App store (the site takes its name from the fact that you can add up to 148 applications to an iPhone or iPod touch).
Meanwhile, the apps thing is so viral that the New Zealand Herald is reporting: "iPhone app-making attracts the DIY developers". We learn that learning Objective C, the "language" on which iPhone applications are built, is not too hard and that one Brit banker, at least, has now got a nice little earner going with his cottage apps industry.
UPDATE: Uh, oh. SpeedType is not a very useful app. Delete!
