60 today!

Rainy Day birthday today. Same goes for Billy Joel. He's 60 this 9 May. Some thirty years ago he was in London and popped into the BBC to deliver a marvellous rendition of New York State of Mind. "Some folks like to get away, take a holiday from the neighbourhood / Hop a flight to Miami Beach or Hollywood. / I'm taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line — I'm in a New York state of mind." The sax break in the middle of this is a knock out.

So how is Billy Joel doing today? He sat down recently for a Q&A with Billboard magazine. Snippet: Do you remember what you did for your 30th birthday? "I was at home. I was married to my first wife, we had a big fight, and she threw all my friends out. I had a jukebox and I wanted to play every song on the jukebox that I got for my 30th birthday. She told everybody to leave and we had a big argument. I got into a real funk and I just sat down in my basement on my 30th birthday. That's what I did."

Here's to a happier 60th, Billy!
