Ethics at Arsenal

First, the video evidence. Keep an eye on Arsenal striker Eduardo during the Gunners' 3-1 Champions League win over Glasgow Celtic on Wednesday night. Rainy Day can see no contact between Eduardo and Celtic keeper Artur Boruc but referee Manuel Gonzalez gave a penalty. You be the judge.

Why all this talk about Fair Play awards and the role-model players leading innocent children by the hand out onto the field if winning is everything? If winning is everything, then these charades should be stopped at once. By the way, Brazilian footballers were never known as cheats, but maybe Eduardo underwent some kind of moral deformation on his way through Croatia. No one wants to believe that diving is something that's he learned under the banner of the Emirates.

And, yes, is was a dive says the Arse Blogger, who presents a bold defence of the outcome in the form of reasoning that runs "...but can anyone really tell me that over the course of the 180 minutes it made a difference to the overall result?" This is disingenuous, though. It's not the goal that's the difference; it's the getting of the goal that illustrates a team's ability, tactics and, even, ethics.

Hi
I read your blog every week, mainly because I appreciate your views.
I cannot say that I disagree with the harshness of the refs decision here. But to call this a "culture" of The Arsenal?
I look forward to your post re Wayne Rooney's exhibition at Old Trafford yesterday. On top of his dive facing Sol Campbell not all that long ago at the same ground against the Gunners. Both given as penalties. Rooney dives when given the chance. As did Ronaldo.
I look forward to your post balancing things out.
The Gunners are no worse than Man U at this. Question is how to eradicate the practice.
Best regards
Ashhley
