Irish inconsolable

"In the end, Thierry Henry's hand was all that separated the two sides at the Stade de France after a night that will live long in the memory of the thousands who crammed the magnificent stadium until the early morning. The French greeted the final whistle with delirium. The Irish fell to the ground, inconsolable." Yes. That's how it was. And not just in Paris did they fall. Gutted.

"Thierry Henry admits to handball that defeated Ireland in World Cup play-off". Right. But it does nothing to ease the pain. The Times, giving the French their due, nails it: "Le hand of God shatters Ireland: Trapattoni's men cheated out of World Cup spot". But the headlnes cannot console today.

Still, we did have a win last night on foreign fields, as it were.
