The siren Elizabeth Fraser returns

Her ethereal voice was at the centre of the sound that made The Cocteau Twins such a ground-breaking band. When the group broke up in 1998, she disappeared from public view and from the music business. And now she’s back. Earlier this year, Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons) announced that the great Elizabeth Fraser will play two dates at the Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre in August. Fortunate indeed are those who have tickets. Back in 1983, Ivo Watts-Russell created a studio entity called This Mortal Coil, invited Elizabeth Fraser to join and urged her to record Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren. It became a huge hit and remains uniquely beautiful.
