The Queen of Hearts still making tarts

Sunday, 17 November, 2013

“On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge
Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion’s pledge,
The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay —
O I loved too much and by such by such is happiness thrown away.”

On Raglan Road

The song version of Patrick Kavanagh’s poem, On Raglan Road, has been recorded by Van Morrison, Sinéad O’Connor, Mark Knopfler, Loreena McKennitt, Billy Bragg, Joan Osborne and Roger Daltrey. A version was released by the Swedish band Eldkvarn on the box set Den goda Skörden, and the Dutch band Rowwen Heze used it as the basis for November on their album “Vandaag”.
